Competition Preparation & Showing

Throughout the spring and summer months, Foothills Farm competes at a great number of shows across the province. With our large, modern horse van, we travel to approximately 25 horse shows per year both Trillium and “A” circuit. If students are interested in competition, Foothills Farm offers a variety of showing opportunities to suit individual goals.

Schooling Shows:

Foothills Farm hosts a number of Schooling Shows throughout the year as a means to prepare riders that are new to competitive riding, and provide practice for more seasoned competitors. Classes are designed to accommodate all levels of riders, from beginner through to advanced. Please check our Events section for a schedule of our upcoming Schooling Shows. Our Schooling Show program is also available online.

Local Shows:
Foothills also hosts a number of Local Shows, in conjunction with Sudbury Young Riders Association ( a local non-profit organization whose goal is to provide affordable competition opportunities to local riders). These shows provide an excellent opportunity for riders to get some competitive miles under their belt before moving up to Trillium or National “A” Level shows.

Trillium Circuit Shows:
Several Trillium Hunter/Jumper Circuit Shows are also hosted by Foothills Farm.

Trillium Circuit shows are sanctioned by the Trillium Hunter/Jumper Association, which is a provincial association made up of several zones across most areas of Ontario. Riders compete and earn points, which are tallied up at the end of the season and the top riders from each zone can compete at the Trillium Championships in Southern Ontario. Trillium level competition is ideal for competitors who cannot absorb the higher cost or do not have the calibre of horse necessary to compete at the National “A” Circuit levels, but want an introduction to competition in the CEF/OEF. Provincial and National memberships are required to show at this level. For more information about Trillium Level competition, please visit the Trillium Hunter/Jumper Association website.

Considered the highest level of competition, “A” Circuit Shows offer riders an opportunity to show against some of the best riders across Canada up to professional level competition or Grand Prix. “A” Circuit riders can earn points to compete at the Royal Winter Fair (considered by many as the “mecca” of all things equine). Foothills Farm travels to many “A” Circuit shows throughout the Spring and Summer months, and have riders who compete at the Royal every year, with good success. Provincial and National memberships are required to show at this level. For more information about Equine Canada, and competition at this level please visit the Equine Canada website.

Through proper education and training, Foothills students can achieve success - regardless of their individual competition goals!
