Northeast Region Trillium Hunter Jumper Association Inc. Newsletter Spring 2008
Dear THJA Member;
Hopefully everyone is anticipating with excitement the start of the upcoming 2008 horse show season. This year again promises to be both exciting and challenging. We completed our 2007 show season with many successes under our belts including a very successful hosting of the Trillium Championships by our region.
Unfortunately we also suffered the huge loss of our friend Rick Smith with his untimely passing in January. Rick will be greatly missed by all who loved him or considered him a friend. He will never be forgotten in our hearts and in our memories. Remember to share a few stories and raise a few toasts to Ricky as the show season progresses. Currently we have 8 shows slated for the 2008 season including the addition of a Huntsville show on July 5 and 6 at Woodridge Farm (This is the old High Rails date). It is exciting to have a new barn show interest in joining our circuit. We wish them good luck and ask you to support their efforts. The following list indicates finalized show dates for this season.
Horse Show Dates 2008
- Knowlton Ridge, North Bay - May 3/4 - Near North, Sudbury - May 24/25 - Strathclair, Sault Ste. Marie - June 7/8 - Knowlton Ridge, North Bay - June 28/29 - Woodridge Farm, Huntsville - July 5/6 - Foothills Farm, Sudbury - July 19/20 - Sudbury Young Riders, Sudbury - August 2/3 - North East Region, Sudbury - August 30/31 - Trillium Championships, Palgrave - Sept. 5/6/7
Some very important news is that the Provincial THJA is now incorporated with the regional reps becoming directors of the incorporation. Each region, including the Northeast has also been incorporated as a separate entity that shares the same bylaws and constitution as the Provincial body. The regional directors currently are the senior rep, junior rep, and secretary/treasurer, (namely; Ed Haley, Caroline Hawson and Tina Breed). Further information will be shared as it becomes available. One point to note is that the incorporation of the regions and the provincial body will not drastically change how we operate or function as an association. This process does however protect us from growing legal issues of liability and brings us into line with proper operational protocol for amateur sport in Canada.
Equine Canada has developed a new horse show and licensing structure, which will affect competitors this coming season. For example all trillium riders require memberships from the Ontario Equestrian Federation, Trillium Hunter/ Jumper Association, and Equine Canada (Silver level sport horse license and a passport). All non-core riders will require memberships from Ontario Equestrian Federation, Trillium Hunter/ Jumper Association, and Equine Canada (Bronze level sport horse license, passports are not required.) Participants in hack classes will not require a passport as usual.
Please also note that points will not be awarded to individuals who register without proper documentation on the day of the show. This rule has always existed but will be enforced to the letter this show season according to the information we have received at the provincial level.
I would like to personally apologize for the time it took to get this information to the membership but unfortunately unforeseen circumstances and last minute changes to show dates has helped delay this process. Please direct any inquiries regarding show dates or membership information to either Caroline Hawson or myself. I hope everyone has an enjoyable show season, good luck and good hunting.
Sincerely,
E. Haley THJA Representative
